How many people remember this $25 bank note?
This was issued in October 1992 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee (25 years) of His Majesty's Ascension to the Throne. In October 1967, His Majesty Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Saadul Khairi Waddien abdicated and His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah became the 29th Sultan of Brunei. Every October would be the anniversary of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah ascending to the throne (or in Malay, naik takhta). This coming October would be the 40th Anniversary. There has been a lot of talk about having a celebration, but officially I have not heard of any.
Incidentally, His Majesty's Coronation was not held until August 1968. So sometimes, the anniversary of the Coronation is celebrated. There was one stamp and first day cover issue which celebrated the Coronation in 1968.
Technically we can have the ceremony at some other time other than October if the palace so wished.
