I read on BB that Brunei visitors are the third largest contributor to Malaysian economy. I did not realise that we travel that much to Kuala Lumpur or spent that much there. So for all you Bruneians who travel to Malaysia that much - here is a quiz - is the above $20 bank note real? And if it is, when did you last see the above $20 Malaysian bank note?

Of course, it's real. Bank Negara issued the first $20 note for its 1982-1984 series and the second $20 note for its 1986-1987 series. They have not issued a new $20 since 1987. This note is the 1986-1987 series.
How come you have not seen it? Most people treat this now as a rarity, so even if one does occassionally surfaced, most likely it will be taken out quickly and kept as a souvenir.
So it's still in circulation on the rare occasion that it pops up. You got one?
the one up there is mine....
Interesting read, but I'm actually desperate to ask you on some postings on BR. Need to use some for my thesis and my supervisor is very strict about using materials off blogs unless I establish contact for written permission. Please get back to me asap. Thanks so very much.
P.S. Tried and Tried harder - looking for contact details on BR.
you haven't tried hard enough - i am available on my main website www.bruneiresources.com - my contact is admin(at)bruneiresources(dot)com - remove the brackets. ;)
Hi,
There were two versions of this $20 note. The first one with multi colour which is very rare, and the second one which you have is the second imprint.
The multi-colour series are very rare because it was circulated for two years only (1982 - 1984). Meanwhile, the same design of this early set with improved security features are more commonly seen until today.
I have both sets. The first one was signed by Tan Sri Dato' Abdul Aziz bin Taha and the second one by Tan Sri Dato' Jaffar Hussein.
